Honoring 40 Years: Martin Luther King Jr.

Since 1987, Twin Cities PBS has produced the annual Martin Luther King Jr. Day celebration featuring live performances and speeches from the Ordway Center for the Performing Arts, supported by the Governor’s Council on the MLK Jr. Holiday. The 40th anniversary event on January 19, 2026, featured Se’Anna Johnson, Imnizaska Indigenous Drum Group, Javonta Patton, and TKO Drumline. The two-hour program included speakers, artists, and award presentations, sponsored by U.S. Bank and partners. It was simulcast and livestreamed in English, Spanish, Hmong, and Somali languages reaching more than 12,000 viewers and highlighting strong community partnerships.
